What you need to know about Diabetes Mellitus type 2

There is a rising number of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) not only in the Philippines but in the world nowadays, therefore, diabetes mellitus is a growing public health concern both to developing and developed countries.

It is believed that the current number of people with diabetes is estimated to be 30 million, is it being forecasted that by the year 2025, it will be at least 55 million.  Prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes mellitus exceeds 8% of the adult population in 13 countries and areas of the regions with some groups having the highest levels in the world. Large numbers of people have diabetes without knowing it.

Type 2 DM is a condition of high blood glucose in the presence of insulin in the body; there is a sufficient insulin production to prevent ketosis but  there is insufficient insulin production to lower blood glucose levels through the uptake of glucose by muscle and gat cells.  This condition is most commonly seen in middle aged and older people.

There are several theories involved in type 2 DM manifestations which include limited beta-cells response to hyperglycemia, peripheral insulin resistance and insulin-receptor or post-receptor abnormalities.  In view of these theories, the major factor of type 2 DM onset is the cellular resistance to the effect of insulin which is triggered by obesity, inactivity, illnesses, medications, increasing age, hypertension and family history.

The persons with type 2 DM experiences polyuria (increased urine output) and polydysia (increased amount of fluid intake). However, there is a slow onset of manifestation and patients are often unaware until  they seek health care for other problems as a result of hyperglycemia which includes blurred vision, fatigue, paresthesia, and skin infection.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is not experienced by persons with type 2 DM but they experience Hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS), which is a serious, life threatening medical emergency condition at the extent. It is characterized by a plasma osmolality of 340 mOsm/L or greater (normal values= 280-300 mOsm/L), highly elevated blood glucose level (more than 600mg/dL and often 1000 to 2000 mg/dL), and altered levels of conciosness.

    Is apple cider vinegar effective?

I’m starting to use organic apple cider vinegar as my waist fat burner.  I read in a newspaper column of the Filipino healthbuff icon that apple cider vinegar is effective as waistline trimmer because it burns fat in that area of the body.  However, for an apple cider vinegar to be effective, one is advised not to eat carbohydrates, sweets, and fatty foods at night and in the morning, prepare a glass of warm water with 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and drink it on an empty stomach.  When I was doing it, I felt that I was always full and I wouldn’t eat too much, hence, my tummy was smaller.  Not to mention that apple cider vinegar also improves one’s immune system. I tried it and it’s really effective.

Going back to my goal of trimming down my waist by burning its fat, I hope that apple cider vinegar works for me again… I should start looking after my diet and the the food that I eat so that it would be effective. My goal is to make my waist smaller once again without taking any synthetic fat burners.

Malacanang will grant title to resort owners in Boracay

Filed under: Boracay, Boracay Resorts, Philippine Real Estate, Properties, real estate

Palace supports Bora resort owners’ bid to have lands titled

    Business Mirror A6

    The Nation

    October 29, 2008

Malacañang has assured resort and hotel owners on Boracay Island that President Arroyo is supporting their intention to secure titles for the land they are currently occupying.

Executive Secretary Eauardo Ermita said the President has instructed concerned government agencies to hold dialogues and come out with a solution in the wake of the Supreme Court (SC) decision declaring the entire island a government property.

The Court affirmed Proclamation 1064, issued two years ago by Arroyo, declaring the island resort into 400 hectares of reserved forestland and 628.96 hectares of agricultural land. However, the Court said the resort and hotel owners and those residing in the island need not vacate the area at once and instead can own the land that they are occupying through a congressional act or strike a special scheme with the government.

Ermita admitted that President Arroyo wants to resolve the issue through a congressional act. He added government agencies like the Departments of Agriculture and of the Environment and Natural Resources were instructed to consult with the residents and investors on Boracay to craft solutions acceptable to all the parties.

“We are aware of the desire of the residents and resort and hotel owners to have the lands they occupy titled. We support their wish and we are now consulting with [Liberal Party] Rep. [Florencio] Miraflores [of Aklan] on how to achieve this,” Ermita said.

The SC, in a landmark ruling early this month, settled once and for all the issue of land ownership in Boracay, sustaining the right of possessors on classified agricultural land to apply for registration of ownership or title to the property which they currently occupy.

Majority, if not all, of the existing resorts and tourism establishments fall within the classified agricultural land of Boracay available for registration and titling under applicable laws.

The Court, in upholding the validity of Proclamation 1064 which classifies 400 hectares of Boracay Island as forestland and 628 hectares as agricultural, said that “in issuing the proclamation, the government has taken the step necessary to open up the island to private ownership except on areas in the island classified as forestland.”

In its decision, the SC said Congress may enact a law to entitle private claimants to acquire titles to the lots they occupy or to exempt them from certain legal requirements.

Ermita disclosed that the Palace is also amenable for other courses to support the desire of the resort and hotel owners like special schemes that would relax certain rules on applying for land title.

    Stem cell

Today is an era for Wellness and Beauty.  People are interested to defying age, and if possible bring back their youth. One of the most interesting topics for this era is stem cell for the skin.

In relation to this, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho will be tackling Stem cell during its episode on November 8, at 8:30PM over GMA-7.  Since my doctor is one of the doctors here in the Philippines who does stem cell, she will be interviewed about it.  The same program interviewed me as well why I am interested to undergo the procedure.

I am not undergoing the procedure because of vanity reason, I just want to have my facial scars removed as a result of fire accident at my house when I was still a baby. Good thing, there is stem cell and it can remove scars already.

    Bad hair fall

I thought my hair fall would stop the moment I stop using the conditioner which I suspected as the cause of my hair fall.  I have been experienceing severe hair fall for more than one month now and my hair is already thin.

I have done so many things already that other people are telling me to do to to stop hair fall. I rarely use shampoo now, and when I do, I use the Lauat shampoo for falling hair.

When I was at home, I used to do the conventional way the older folks do such as using the lemon grass juice to wash my hair, drinking herbal concoctions, etc.

Would somebody help me what to do to stop hair fall?

    How about a Caribbean cruise

There was one episode of Pinoy Meets World aired over GMA-7 that talks about Caribbean cruises.  It was hosted by Maki Pulido and she showed the beautiful attraction in Carribean islands.

In the episode, she showed the cabin of the cruise ship where she was on board, which looks like a hotel room, swimming pool inside the cruise ship, casino, entertainment areas, and so many endless activities inside the giant ship.

It was a very interesting topic that covers lots of information when you are planning to go on Carribean cruises.  She showed the diamond stores, restaurants that serves the famous delicacies, place to go, activities to do and the likes.

I believe going on Carribean cruises need not be expensive, you just have to be adventurous so you can find reasonable rates on having your Carriebean cruise dream come to reality.
